Spring In NYC!

The nice weather is finally here...sortof! The Yankees and the Metropolitans are playing in warmer weather, schools are letting out and spring is in the air! Time to get outside and soak up some sunshine, just keep in mind that spring weather can be up and down even within a day so pack a light jacket for when the air turns crisp on ya. Even with all the hustle and bustle in NYC, there’s still plenty of opportunities to get outside and relax! Check out our list of some of the best ways to enjoy this spring in NYC!

1. Start with a cup of coffee, duh!

There’s nothing quite like a hot cup of coffee on a nice New York City morning. In the midst of the whole city rushing around at 8:00am, there’s just something calming about a quality cup of coffee! Stop in to a local, indie coffee shop - we’re partial to Third Rail Coffee ; ) - on a nice crisp morning for a cup that’ll get you going. And if you’re hungry, we’d recommend picking up one of our pastries from some of the finest bakeries NYC has to offer like Blue Sky’s muffins, which come in incredible flavor combos that rarely repeat!

2. Explore Central Park

Even if you’ve been living in New York for an extended period of time, you’ve probably never seen all of Central Park, so what are you waiting for?! The newfound warmth and sunshine makes it a perfect time to go explore. Try to find your way into an area of the park you’ve never seen before.

3. As Is

Head over to Hell’s Kitchen and taste some of the best beers being crafted today. The industrial-yet-warm space features dark woods and dark metals against a concrete floor, with a pop of a neon green sign that reads “fresh beer” on the brick wall. A short menu of elevated bar food features substantial pressed sandwiches. There’s also the go-to egg-heavy sandwiches during weekend brunch. It’s also one of the few serious beer bars that offers one, so come before 7 p.m. for $1 off drafts and $10 cocktails on.

4. Bar Pitti

A nice warm spring night is a perfect opportunity to head on over for a delicious italian dinner at Bar Pitti. This NYC hot spot is known for its frequent celebrity sightings and exquisite menu. Compared to all of the other Italian restaurants in NYC, it’s extremely affordable as well. While the atmosphere inside is very casual and intimate, Bar Pitti is also an excellent place to go for a spontaneous outdoor dinner after work with your significant other!

5. Farmers Market

Skip the average joe grocery store this spring and start doing your grocery shopping in the sunshine at the Union Square Greenmarket! This world famous market has been supplying NYC with fresh, local produce since 1976 and has over 140 vendors. And it’s not just for the average NYC resident; it’s not uncommon to see big-time chefs getting their produce their as well! If you’ve got no plans on a beautiful Saturday morning, head on over to the northwest part of Union Square Park to find this booming market. If Saturday’s don’t fit your schedule, the Union Square Greenmarket is open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays also!

6. Movie Under The Stars

If you’re looking for a post-dinner date on a nice warm night, a movie under the stars is just what you need. The NYC Department of Parks and Recreation puts on movies almost every single weekend through the warm season and they won’t cost you a dime. Aside from the films that the city puts on, a few other organizations put on outdoor movies such as the Rooftop Cinema Club, the HBO Bryant Park Summer Film Festival, and the Central Park Film Festival, among many others. In fact, you could probably catch a movie any night of the week if you really wanted to!

Aside from the things on this list, there are a million and one ways to enjoy the spring weather in NYC. Whether you’re into kayaking, running, or just relaxing in the sunshine on a blanket in Central Park with your favorite book, NYC has plenty to offer to get you outside in the fresh spring air!
